Unstructured Determinants of Transcription Factor Function

The majority of gene regulating transcription factors contain long unstructured sequences, whose functions remain poorly understood. Therefore, I am investigating how these unstructured domains enable transcription factor co-operation, chromatin binding, transcription factor clustering and transcription activation. Specifically, my research focuses on mapping the function of unstructured domains in EWS-FLI1, a fusion oncogene, whose unstructured region is implicated in self-interaction, clustered hub formation, transcription activation and oncogenesis.
