Job Opportunities

Lab Values

The T+D lab is committed to a diverse and inclusive working environment, where we especially value collegiality, collaboration within and outside the lab, independent thinking and initiative to seek out new problems and develop innovative experimental methods and model systems.

The T+D lab strives to provide equal opportunity of employment. All qualified applicants receive consideration for employment regardless of their sex, race, color, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, protected veteran status, disability, ancestry, genetic status or characteristic, citizenship, or other legally protected status.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

Check our People and Research page to see who is currently accepting students’ applications. We admit undergraduate students on semester-based schedules.

To join in the Fall or Spring semester: apply through the URAP portal.

To join in the Summer Semester: fill out this Google form.

The majority of our undergraduates work for course credits (through MCB or URAP), but we occasionally have work-study positions available (if you are eligible for financial aid, check the WSMS student portal for up-to-date information). Many undergraduates apply for paid summer fellowships (e.g., SURF). We have also hosted Amgen and CIRM scholars.

Our Expectations for Undergraduate Researchers:

  • Undergraduates in the Tjian/Darzacq lab typically spend between 12-20 hours per week performing research during the semester and 40 hours per week during the summer.
  • Most undergraduates work over multiple semesters with one mentor to assist them in their project. This may culminate in an honors thesis if the student chooses.
  • We expect our undergraduate researchers to contribute to a positive lab culture by attending lab meetings and journal clubs.

PhD Research Opportunities

We typically recruit graduate students through UC Berkeley Molecular and Cell Biology Graduate Program and Biophysics PhD Program. Interested students should reach out directly to the Principal Investigators to discuss rotating in the lab.

Postdoctoral Research Opportunities

We hire postdocs on a rolling basis. If interested in performing your postdoctoral research in our lab, please contact the Principal Investigators directly.
